Zack Baxla Day

May 31, 2014

Larry Jones with Baldwin & Shell Construction assisted with the project management of Zack Baxla’s Eagle Scout project. The project consisted of two 10’ by 20’ pavilions along the bike trail at Burns Park. One Pavilion was dedicated to the Wounded Warriors of Arkansas & the other to the Native Americans of Arkansas. The intent of the pavilions is for the users of the bike trail to have a place to stop & rest & to picnic & enjoy nature.

There was a host of volunteers & donors helping to make this project a success. Hums Hardware & Rental donated equipment to dig footings. Reeds Metal donated the metal roofing. Home Depot donated materials & labor for the landscaping. Hugg & Hall donated the storage building for materials & tools. Brenda’s Portable Toilets donated the two portable toilets during construction. Brundage Bone donated the concrete pumping. Razorback Concrete donated the concrete. Kaufman Lumber donated the lumber & hardware. Baldwin & Shell donated the use of tools. Dennis Miller, Chuck Garrett, Tim Davis & Larry Jones from Baldwin & Shell helped in the construction of the pavilions alongside Zack.

ConcreteThe project was a huge success for Zack. The mayor of North Little Rock proclaimed May 31, 2014 as Zack Baxla Day in North Little Rock. He received an American flag that was flown over the nation’s capital building from Senator Pryor. Governor Beebe recognized Zack in his address at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock on Memorial Day.
