The Arkansas State University Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers recently competed in the Deep South Conference held at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee. The Student Chapter entered in the Steel Bridge, Concrete Canoe, Technical Paper, Mystery Event and Surveying competitions. They earned the most first & second place finishes of all the universities present. The Student Chapter had the most top finishes with a first place finish in the Steel Bridge & first runner up placements in the Mystery events & Technical Paper.
The steel bridge team also had first place finishes in construction speed, lightness, stiffness, economy, efficiency, & display. The Deep South is composed of 14 universities including Memphis, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU, New Orleans, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana Lafayette & others. The Steel Bridge team included Eric Romero of Hot Springs, Grant Cox of Jonesboro, Kevin Wang of Sherwood, Ryan Wood of Birmingham, Alabama, Eugene Uekman of Quitman, Travis Brooks of Jonesboro, & Steven Rollins of Paragould. The Mystery Event team consisted of Keegan Tatsch of Mena, & the Technical Paper was written & presented by Travis Brooks of Jonesboro. The concrete canoe team placed seventh overall.
